Powerful Strategies For Making The Most Of Your List Once You Have It

Anyone can create a list these days. It’s easy and even free with services like MailChimp but starting one isn’t the problem. How you use it can be good or bad and if you want to survive long with a list that responds to you then you need to understand a few things about how to use your list even before starting one.

Give The List A Target

Your list only cares about what you can do to help them solve a problem. It takes a lot of work to come up with a title just right so people open your email. Then you need to deliver and that’s where the magic happens, or so it should.

Ultimately, give your subscribers something to do and make it something worth their while, otherwise they have nothing to open your emails for. That’s right, emails, as in future emails.

Communicate Effectively

I actually do this with my cell phone every day but if you get good at this you will reap the rewards far into the future. Figure out what your list wants and deliver that either personally (by email, tweets, Facebook, etc.) and/or with your blog posts. This is important as it shows that you care about the people who signed up and that you know they have a problem and you’re working on finding a solution and wanting to keep updated on what’s going on in their lives as well.

Although having a list is to help sell stuff, understanding and getting to know people for who they are will help a lot in the long run. You don’t want to always be selling and it’s a good idea to get a routine down and see the results from it. Then change it if you need to but at least that way you will have a better idea of things.

Are You Giving Away Something Free?

Do, yet don’t! What you give to anyone who signs up to your list needs to be of high value and that’s why it shouldn’t be free in a sense. It shouldn’t cost anything but it needs to deliver highly so people really want to opt-in. Otherwise, it’s just a waste of time trying to get more opt-ins and doing everything else.

In The End

Maintaining a list really isn’t that hard once you know what you’re doing and have a bit of practice. Every list is different and responds differently so it’s important to see what works and what doesn’t. We’re all only human but basic things really apply: Be nice, tell the truth, help deliver value, be dependable, sell only what you believe in, rinse and repeat.

You won’t be disappointed.
