List Building - Secrets to Spontaneously Explode Your List Part 1

With any new endeavor, few of us have an osmosis experience where we just sit and absorb the material and become immediate experts. Believe me, I have tried and my grades in school are proof that it does not work! So it took some research to dig out these easy-to-use, but often missed ways to build your list.

List Building- it’s a skill that can be learned

I will be right up front and say that there is a good chance that osmosis will set in on a couple of these secrets. You may yawn and say: “I know that.” But…did you do…”that?” So let’s start with one that you probably know something about.

List Building- Using Forums

I bet those of you who use forums or have read about them somewhere just said…”yep, I know that. What’s this guy going to say that I don’t already know?” So if you do, I guess you don’t have to read any further.

OK, on to the forums. It’s really simple. Assuming you have your niche’ market in mind, head off to Google or another favorite search engine. Type in your keyword and behind it type forum or forums. Like: “camping forums.”

Join a forum or two and get involved. Ask questions and provide answers- people really enjoy answers from osmosis members. Not! Be positive! Be solution-oriented. Don’t be afraid to send PM’s (private messages) to individuals. You can develop great relationships that will pay big dividends down the road. (Secret #5) I believe it was Garfield who said: “Use your friends wisely!”

Remember, you are discussing and reading comments by folks who love the same things you do. Their passion is your passion so you have a target market so to speak.

List Building- Link it to your site

You will find that you can’t go into a forum and say: “Here I am; buy my product.” In fact, that would be the absolute wrong reason to join a forum. And, many forums have rules that strictly forbid you from advertising- you will get booted pretty quick. You join a forum to learn, to engage and to let folks know that you have a real answer to some of their problems. That’s the key to selling on the web anyway. You are providing “pain relief” to problems that affect other like-minded people. So share your thoughts.

So how do you “sell” without selling? That’s fairly simple too. Here’s Secret #1: Make yourself a powerful signature at the bottom of your forum blog. Link that signature back to your website. After you establish yourself in the forum, folks will check you out. They will see that you truly have something to offer and begin to trust you as a forum member.
