One Indispensable Key to Getting and Keeping a Quality ListMany online marketers talk about the ins and outs of building a list as a means to offering their products to their subscriber base (which the subscriber will hopefully buy into at some point). This is great, as well as very necessary to know about, but what a lot of marketers DON’T talk about is the relationship which should be forged between the marketer and those people who make up your list. That’s right - they’re real people like you and I, not just your ticket to online fortune. Why do people forget this? Let’s turn the tables for a second. Would you rather buy a product from somebody who you know and trust, or one more of the many thousands out there who are trying to sell you a lemon? I think I know your answer. For example, I recently happened upon another website which promised instant wealth with little to no work (NO such legal enterprise exists, that I know of). Well, their sales pitch was so convincing that I decided to opt in to their mails. Bad idea! They sent me email after email in which they promised the world but without really telling me what their business was about or how to find out more without first laying out a hefty sum for something they called their ‘decision pack’. The result was that they didn’t connect with me, I felt like just another number and I was quickly looking for the unsubscribe link. In other words, they hooked me, but they couldn’t land me because they wanted something from me without first getting to know me. I’m sure this all sounds very familiar to you too. The One Truth About Buyers That You Can’t Afford To Ignore The truth is that the people whose lists I have stayed subscribed to have been willing to part with far, far more than what they’re asking for. They were prepared to GIVE VALUABLE FREE CONTENT instead of trying to shove their product down my throat. If I were a betting man, I’d put money down that most prospective buyers out there feel the same way. They’re unsure at first, and rightly so. You can’t afford to overlook that. It’s one thing to create a list, but what you really want is a base of people who know you, who trust you, who have seen that you’re not just out to take them for a quick buck and that you have something of REAL VALUE for them, something which you are proud of. The way to offer great value is to GIVE first and to GIVE IT FOR FREE. This is not to say that you shouldn’t be offering your subscribers your products which come with a price tag, because you should be. But at first, be prepared to GIVE a lot while your subscribers are still making up their minds about you. Why? Because if you do these will be the very same people who will soon be buying from you. People aren’t morons, they can tell a shark from a mile away. Create great content. Find a point of difference between you and your competitors. Find out what people already want to buy. Be willing to GIVE people more than their money’s worth and they’ll love you for it. Seeing Further Than The Instant Dollar Signs Creates Rewards Later Consider that you want a long-term relationship with your list. If you don’t give good value, there’s no way your first-time buyer is coming back for more. Instead they’ll be running for the hills and, what is more, your reputation will be ruined in the process. Ever heard of an opinion going viral? This can happen negatively just as easily as it can happen positively. So, the big secret to remember is that it’s not so much your numbers that count (because you can’t necessarily convert those numbers to sales), it’s the QUALITY of relationship that you have with those subscribers that will set you apart, not to mention that it will keep your customers happy and coming back for more. This seems really simple but that’s the beauty of it, IT IS simple. Here’s how you get a QUALITY list again, in point form: 1. Create amazing content with a difference, content that you’re proud of.
