Setting Up Your Opt-In Page for Maximum Sign Ups

The first and sometimes the only thing you will need to start your internet business will be your squeeze or opt-in page. This is the page which you want all your visitors to land on, which gives it yet another name, your landing page. This page has only one purpose in life and that is to obtain the prospects name and e-mail address.

Once upon a time this used to be quite simple but it is becoming more difficult. In the early days of the internet people were happy to hand over their e-mail address, they thought it was quite a novelty to receive e-mails. These days people guard them as jealously as they would their pin numbers. The reason behind this is spam. People have become fed up with receiving loads of unsolicited e-mails from people and firms they know nothing about and have no interest in. They have become very wary of allowing more sales pitches into their in-box every morning.

With this in mind, what can you do to get them to abandon their cautious attitudes and give you their e-mail address. It’s simple, offer them something of value that they are interested in for free. We shall now look at how to construct a good squeeze page.

A squeeze page is really a one page web site and a good one must contain the following elements.
A Headline
A Sub-headline
Bullet points mentioning the benefits of your product.
A call to action
An opt-in box
A privacy or anti-spam statement.
The components are very similar to a sales letter and it follows similar rules.

The Headline. As with any standard sales page your headline is most important. It must demand attention from the reader and tempt them to read the rest of the page. It should shout your products best benefit.

The Sub-headline. This should reinforce the headline and it is a good idea to have it expand on your products second strongest benefit.

The Bullets. You should list something between 5 and 7 points listing the benefits and not the features of your product or gift. Try to introduce an element of intrigue but make them as compelling as you can.

A Call To Action. On a standard sales page this would be perhaps read something like “Click here to buy”, actually telling your reader what to do. On a squeeze page you would ask them to enter their first name and e-mail address and submit it to access their free gift.

The Opt-in Box. This is your most important element on the squeeze page. The whole purpose of your page is encompassed in this one box. You might very well wonder how to produce one. You will find that most good auto-responder services provide a large and varied assortment of opt-in boxes to suit your page.

The Privacy Statement. This is very important. It is perhaps the number one reason why people will not sign up. This is because they do not want unwanted e-mails than they are already getting. It must be emphasised to them that you will respect their privacy and you will not sell or give away their e-mail to anyone else. This is a must on any opt-in form.

These are the six elements which make up a good squeeze page. You will not need fancy graphics as most squeeze pages do not have graphics of the product that is being given away. However it is your squeeze page and you can actually do as you choose and test it to confirm one way or another.
