How Many Links Do You Have To Your Website?

I have had a few people asking me how many inbound links they have to their website. They have looked online and checked to see what they have and they are getting different numbers. Which number is right? Who do you trust? Where are all the links you bought? What happened to all the time you spent obtaining new links? There is a simple answer to this…don’t worry about it.

“Dont worry about it…?” WHAT? Yes I am saying don’t worry about the numbers. You can go to 20 different websites and get 20 different reports from them. Different search engines find different links at different times. Links are found by website crawlers that go from website to website and find links and see where they go. The crawlers also look for new information. You never know when the crawlers will crawl your site and when they wont. The more often you have new information on your website the more often the search engines will crawl it.

The main thing you want to do rather than waste time constantly worrying about your stats is to continue working on developing good valuable information that people will want to read and connect to. By doing this you will get links. Ensure you have good information on your website, blogs and articles and people will begin to find you and your website. Keep creating the information that people will want to link to and the links will naturally come.

Some links take longer to show up than others. Just remember the purpose of links is so people can find you easier. The more links you get the more likely it is that a person will stumble upon your website. The higher rankings in the search engines will come later with those links. The best thing you can do is to try to diversify your efforts. Don’t just build links through directory listings. Try getting links through blogs, articles, social media site profiles, social book marketing. The more links you can get pointing to your website the more juice your website will have and the more traffic you will get.

I am not saying not to keep up with your inbound links. You want to occasionally look up your stats to see the fruit of your hard work. I would suggest you find a website that you trust (like HubSpot) and stick to it so you can see what you have gained on your website. Like I have said before your website is not a sprint race it is a cross country race. You want to build organic growth and that takes time.
