When you are a beginner to internet marketing, one of the first things you need to learn is how to build an email list.

“The money is in your list” is what all of the gurus teach. And they are correct, but as a beginner, where do you really start?

The gurus have large teams of people researching new sites to promote their products from, and yes, build their email lists.

Depending on your niche, you need to seek out the gurus & affiliates and let them “secretly mentor” you. If they are doing it, it is logical that it works and is probably financially rewarding.

Here is what you do:

1. Find the gurus in your niche
2. Setup a Google alert for their name. Also setup an alert for “free traffic”.
3. The daily alerts will send you sites that the gurus are using for promotion (a little spying:))
4. You will find a bunch of “little known websites” you can use to drive traffic to your site.

As an example, we are going to use the internet marketing niche. You might setup Google alerts for Ryan Deiss, Phil Mansour, or Frank Kern, just to name a few. When you receive your daily alert, you will be surprised at the websites that they use for promotion and to build their email list.

Here are a couple of sites I found that I never knew existed by using the Google alerts: scribd.com & docstoc.com. They are both sites were you can publish a PDF file.

To attract readers to your site, all you have to do is publish a short 800 to 1000 word PDF file, or you could rewrite some good PLR content. Make sure you include a link back to your website at the end of the report.

When the reader clicks on your link, they will head to your site where you will give them more free content which also includes your optin box. Voilà, free list building traffic!

In conclusion, let the gurus show you were they are garnering new &free traffic by setting up your Google alerts. Watch how they promote their products and services from these small, unique sites and copy what they do!

The PDF sites above were just an example of the cool little, possibly unknown websites that are out there ready to drive buyers to your website.
