Build an Effective Email List to Convert More Sales

One thing that a lot of website owners miss is the opportunity to build effective email lists. If you have email enquiries and orders being processed you will have the persons email address, this must collected and added to a list.

If you attend exhibitions or shows and are offered business cards with email addresses add them to your list, I know it sounds very simple and guess what it actually is.

Once you have compiled an email list and bear in mind this can consist of thousands or maybe just a couple of dozen, you can start marketing yourself very efficiently. For a start how much does an email cost in reality? The answer is nothing. Most people on your list will be targeted because they have enquired about your business or better still have previously purchased something.

Now that your list is filling up lets start using it.

• Create a well worded email to attract the customer’s attention, you can use HTML to give the email a fantastic visual appeal but remember that not all email systems allow the reading of such code so it could end up looking poor. Check all of your spellings because no one likes a poorly spelt email which will lose you credibility.
• Hit the customer with a new product or price such as a sale. This will encourage the customer to be at least intrigued.
• Link the email directly to your website so that if the customer wants to purchase the product one click will take them there. Be sure it is linked to the correct page also because that is very frustrating when you have to search.

You will be surprised at just how many responses you get which will increase your sales conversions. The more people you have on your list the greater your chances are. Just like any selling it is a numbers game, for instance if you send out 1,000 emails you have a good chance of converting at least 10% of them as long as the email is good. Obviously if you only send 20 emails you stand a chance of not converting anyone.

Get into the habit of building your list each time someone emails you, be it through an order or an enquiry. Simply add that name and email address to your list.

Finally be very careful what you do with any information received as there are privacy regulations that you have to comply to. So don’t go selling the information to others without consent. Best of luck with your sales.
