Throwing together a squeeze page with a sales pitch and an opt-in form isn’t going to help you build the type of subscriber list you need to run a profitable e-mail marketing campaign. Unless you already have a thriving stream of traffic to your page, the bulk of your initial efforts will be dedicated to promoting your offer and driving visitors to your squeeze page. These squeeze promotion strategies offer the best returns on your time and money investment:

1. Push your newsletter in the real world. You don’t have to do all of your marketing online. Add your squeeze page URL to your website, post a sign up page in your physical store, and add the web address to your stationery, flyers, and invoices. You can also hand out cards promoting the newsletter at conferences, trade shows, and other special events.

2. Offer free or discounted subscriptions to popular clubs and associations within your niche. Other groups may be willing to offer you a reduced cost on subscriptions that you can pass on to your visitors. It’s a win-win situation.

3. Post your product on eBay and Craigslist - then include your squeeze page URL with each advertisement. By posting your products on these sites, you’ll capitalize on their massive traffic and be able to drive visitors to your squeeze page.

4. Promote your newsletter in the signature line. You can add a link to your squeeze page (and a short elevator pitch) to your e-mail signature and forum signature lines.

5. Host a contest on your site. Offer a prize for “best caption,” “best picture” or another category. Then require people to sign up with their name and e-mail address in order to vote and make nominations.
